Hi guys,
I have a bad news for you all today, a couple of days ago I received a warning from ProBoards (the service provider of this forum) to remove all explicit content from the website, I tried to negotiate with them on this and proposed different methods to find a middle solution like posting just hyperlink of images leading to an external website or using blurred images but they disagreed on both of them and gave me 48 hours to remove all offending content.
Then I tried to contact their customer support and explained them that we are a modding community, we do not promote real nudity, pornography, child abuse or violence which is what they mention in their terms of service though some of our mods do have graphic nudity but it's strictly game related but they still refused to relax their stance on this.
Upon further inquiry about this rule they said that PG-13 is what they consider allowable which is pretty low for our mods because SFV itself is PG-12+ then our mods often cross that line I think and Dead or Alive is something in league of it's own and then it has mods too, so even if we remove all the adult content (which I don't prefer because adult modding is also part of the community) we will still be operating border line.
So we removed all adult images and videos from the forum while leaving simple download links to adult mods thinking that this measure will be enough to satisfy them though unfortunately they shutdown the forum today which was a pretty drastic move, now what worries me is the fact that they can shut down the forum anytime they like on any content they will find inappropriate that's why I requested them to bring it back online for another 48 hours so we can take our data.
Now the thing is our old forum provider (Zetaboards) also had similar terms of service but they never touched us on any of the adult content so it could be because they were lazy to screen the content or they never cared because it was just a game modding website but these guys are strict on this and I just saw their action.
Long story short, I think we have to do another migration. I am extremely sorry to all those who came here to support us and specially modders who did the hard work of bringing their content here but for a better future we have to get a place that will allow us more freedom and control on how we do things and since we are just a week or two older now is the right time to do this migration otherwise if we will grow more then things will get even more difficult.
Basically every free forum service will have similar rules and I simply can't predict who will be more strict and who will be lenient. In order to avoid this situation in future, I have registered my own domain www.modderbase.com and a hosting service for two years, me and khaled will bear the initial cost of this purchase. In coming week we will be building another forum that will be free from a 3rd party service provider, something like www.loverslab.com with no restriction on content.
All I want from you guys is to please join when it gets ready, I hope it will be a final endeavor in building a proper fighting game mod community with freedom.
NOTE: All modders should take a back up of their modding threads because although I will try to keep this place alive but there is no guarantee if they will shut us down again so just be careful and in case this gets shut down again then you know where to find us. Most of us have our own DeviantArts, mine is brutalace.deviantart.com and our new home will be www.modderbase.com.
NOTE2: For members (especially modders) who want to backup their own posts & messages, they can do that easily thru Proboards' global account setting, go here www.proboards.com/account/settings --> see the text "Export Member Data", then after a couple of minutes later you refresh the page you will see two download links for either your posts or your messages (both are saved into csv / text format).
As always, I am very for your continuous team effort and support.
